(closed) UID 1000

Hi,

I would appreciate it, to have on forthcoming version the UID 1000 set for the primary user. Right now it has the ID 1001.

Having multiple distributions on the system (any I tested uses UID1000), it would make chroot or firejail to other systems more convenient.

Regards,
Volker

We are not going to change as
1. we do not know why
2. there seems to be no problem with it.

If you can provide us with more links or information, we can investigate.

Well,

to answer #1:
The Live-System you are using for creating the ArchLabs-iso seems to be or was a multi-user system. At least the UID of the logged in user is 1001, when starting Calamares.
Starting Calamares with UID 1000 should change this.

for #2:
Simple Setup:
Dual-Boot into ArchLabs and into any other distribution ...
One seperate drive which contains the data (mounted as /home/Data, the folders pictures, music and so on are symlinked to this mount).
Result:
Two distributions sharing the same Data ... the only thing to take in account, the UID of both Linux Distributions has to be the same.

Other reasons:

sorry to see you have put all this time into it to document everything. I just figured it out.
R2-D2 will have user 1000 as first user.

Thanks for your help
