[solved]No Desktop After Login

PostPosted by pippo » Fri Jun 23, 2017 5:35 am

Hello,
Last couple of days I have been experiencing a little problem: after login the openbox session doesn't start, i get a black (blank) screen with the mouse cursor only.
I am able to reboot pressing Super+t (the mouse cursor change into text mode, so i assume the terminal is on) and type the command.
Please note that i cannot actually see any window or text being typed, but the system reboots anyway.
I am still running the 4.0 version, I whish I wasn’t so lazy.
Have you got any quick fix for it?
Any advice is much appreciated.

Retrace your steps is the best advice.
Check the github files with your own.
You might have been experimenting with
bashrc
zshrc
lightdm.conf
xinitrc
...

A clean install of 4.1 is the best way to go. You will become part of the rolling release. All archlabs packages will be updated automatically.

Thank you guys, probably i have been messing too much and i lost the track. Will save as much stuff as i can and do a fresh install.
Maybe one day i will learn how handy is to have a separate home partition...
I would mark this tread as closed if i only knew how to do it. Sorry.
Thanks again.

No separate home directory here
It is actually a VERY BAD IDEA

Why?

The soul of ArchLabs is in the tuning and tweaking and that is in the ~/.config folder.
The only way you are gonna get that is via ISO.

I put all on dropbox and google drive.

Let ArchLabs installer do the standard installation procedure - erase all.

Then everything is synced back.

I am always pro clean installation - Windows or Mac alike.
