Booting AL iso from USB drive - 30 sec timeout issue

PostPosted by postmasterdclxvi » Tue Jun 13, 2017 1:03 am

While booting the AL iso from a USB drive, sometimes there is a possibility that you may encounter the following message & the loader will subsequently drop you to the console.
Waiting 30 seconds for device /dev/disk/by-label/archlabs-v4.1.0-2017.06.04 ...
ERROR: '/dev/disk/by-label/archlabs-v4.1.0-2017.06.04' device did not show up after 30 seconds

This happens because the USB device label does not match the label which is provided in the syslinux configuration file.

The workaround for this is to execute the following command
Code: Select all
ln -s /dev/disk/by-label/ARCHLABS-V4 /dev/disk/by-label/archlabs-v4.1.0-2017.06.04
exit
Replace ARCHLABS-V4 with whatever is the value listed under /dev/disk/by-label

While the workaround provided is for AL v4.1, it holds good for AL v4.0 as well.

Hope this helps someone to try out the AL live CD on their physical system instead of Virtual environment.
