[Solved] Need to load the LTS Kernel

PostPosted by Lend27 » Tue May 30, 2017 1:53 am

The default latest kernel does not have support for my wifi driver (rtl8812au).
What is the recommended procedure for installing and booting to the LTS kernel?
I installed the LTS kernel and the LTS Headers, but when I select that kernel from the grub screen, it hangs at "Started Hostname Service" and will not boot.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Len

Hi and welcome to the forums Len,
For installing the LTS kernel there is a script.
Go to the filemanager -> ctrl+h -> .config -> openbox -> scripts -> get the latest...

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I ran the script, but it still hangs in the same place. It will not finish the boot process.
The default latest kernel still boots fine.

Thanks! That did it for me :)
I needed to install nvidia-lts. Simple as that.
All good now. Many Thanks!

I think this will take care of the issues you and others will have with your hardware upon next iso release.

https://github.com/ARCHLabs/Archlabs-Iso/commit/e8f3dbe64d40e1a152ab0a834e828c413b35f249
https://github.com/ARCHLabs/Archlabs-Iso/commit/fec208b9e15de3096aade1143d4263457b0452d3

If you have the time and if you want to, we can provide you with an iso to test the future iso on your hardware. None of us can do this test.
Get in touch with me on google hangouts and we will include you in the betatesters team, if you are willing to reinstall from scratch.
You will have a rolling release (also for archlabs) as well if you do.

bad news when installing the three nvidia packages my pc just would not reboot (although i have an nvidia card but do not use nvidia drivers whatsoever)

conclusion : the three nvidia applications will need to be excluded from the packaging list for the iso.

When will people have this problem with what specific hardware will they get into trouble

Maybe a separate topic with hardware specs (inxi -b) can help others to install the software afterwards.
