(solved) Nvidia install, icons and text gone to small

PostPosted by Clarky » Tue May 16, 2017 9:35 am

Hello, I am new to linux in fact I have never used or owned a PC before, I have just installed Archlabs updated and installed the Nvidia drivers using the sudo pacman -S nvidia nvidia-settings and rebooted and now the fonts and text are that small I can not see anything unless I use a magnifying glass and being a Quadriplegic with only about 15% of use left in my right arm is proving extremely difficult, how do I rectify this problem. My specs are i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz x 4 with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080. Please bear in mind I can not use any command that involves the CTRL+ALT+F5 type of command, I can copy and paste using the mouse however this feature does not work either in Archlabs, just remembered i had to type the sudo commands for Nvidia in the terminal, how do I rectify this problem as well.
Thanks in advance

Hi Clarky,

Archlabs has chosen termite as a terminal. You can use the copy/paste functionality as well in this terminal.

Just use ctrl+shift+ v in the terminal or ctrl+shift+c to copy anything from there

We refer you to the wiki of termite for more details.

Hi Clarky,

you mention nvidia-settings. Is it possible you can set things correct again in that application.

Get to it via terminal or dmenu (ctrl+shift+d).

Was it necessary to install nvidia drivers? I have never done that in years but then I do not have the latest nvidia hardware.

Hello erikdubois, thank you for your reply, as a result of my disability I can not use any command that involves using ctrl+shift+c ctrl+shift+d etc I can type copy and paste, my usage is mouse only. I have partially solved my problem by using the xfce4 appearance settings with Hinting Slight Sub-pixel RGB and adjusting the custom DPI setting to 105. The only problem I have now is the openbox menu I can not find the DPI settings for openbox I need to change the DPI settings in openbox from 96 to 105, as that will fix the rendering problem in openbox. The copy and paste was user error I did not use the keys properly on my mouse.
(Was it necessary to install nvidia drivers?) yes it is as my system really struggles with the nouveau drivers in fact your OS is the only one that has managed to boot so far with the free drivers

Regarding the menu

Go to menu, preferences, openbox, gui config tool, appearance,
make menu header and menu item as big as you like
