Units of measure for memory

I don't know how bad it is in your country but when i walk arround and see Units like TB, GB and MB; I ask myself which [SAMPLE TEXT] Person, made that up...
Units like Kilo isn't recommended in the Informatic, but highly used by everyone out there... Why did that win... or became so popular?

Kilo = 10^3 Bytes
Mega = 10^6 "
Giga = 10^9 "
Tera = 10^12 "

Kibi = 2^10 Bytes
Mega = 2^20 "
Giga = 2^30 "
Tera = 2^40 "

Why: In the informatic you are confronted with a machin which conductor only distinguish between POWER ON and POWER OFF, 1/0, True/False. Means that you have 2 Options, 2 Numbers that fit into a system, the binary System. Which is alot easier to calculate by using Kibi...
